Caring for you at home

caring for alzheimers at home

Compassionate care for you and your loved ones at home is at the centre of what we do at AQ @ Home.

We believe in supporting people towards wellness, maintaining independence for as long as possible, and remaining connected to your community.

AQ @ Home offers a broad range of options such as domestic assistance, nursing, medication assistance, lifestyle activities, allied health, and meal preparation. Additionally, we provide information and respite services to assist caregivers in taking a well-deserved break.

For our nursing staff, being able to see clients in their own homes is one of the most meaningful parts of their day.

Registered nurse Brianne said she loved being able to offer help and support in a comforting environment.

“In this role, I see a lot of carers as well, and being able to help them and tell them what’s available for them in terms of help from the government – it’s a good feeling to be able to help people,” she said.

“Lots of people are very nervous or worried, and we’re able to help them with all services, not just what we offer. We’re like a one stop shop.

“We personalise everything – we like to know when does this person like their shower, how do they like their coffee, it’s the personal details that are important.

“We like to know what the client prefers, what appeals to them. It’s person-centred care.”

For registered nurse Sata, being in someone’s home gave her a chance to help not just the client, but their whole family.

“I love helping clients in their homes, we’re able to spend lots of time with them, it’s important to respect their cultural background – if it’s important to them, it’s important to us,” she said.

“We can spend time with them, have a conversation with them, if we’re seeing them for the first time, I like to be able to see their family and carers as well.

“Having their families there, I’m able to provide some education – I might only be seeing them twice a week, so if something happens when I’m not there, it’s important to have their loved ones be part of their care.”

Registered nurse Vera, who oversees clinical assessments, said home care was less confronting for clients and their carers.

“It’s very nice to go into people’s homes,” she said.

“They feel comfortable, and they like to sit and talk, it’s their environment, and often they’re sharing their history and their family with you – it makes you emotional sometimes!

“My job is to show them some empathy.

“Often we see people from different backgrounds, and we find someone who can speak in their languages.”
