Staff profile – Eden Sleightholme, State Manager, Community and Home Care

Eden Sleightholme

Caring for older people is more than just a job for AQ State Manager, Eden.

“For me, culturally, coming from the Philippines, we really look after our elderly,” she said.

“This is about helping the entire community, and we talk to other providers, we work with everyone in the wider community.”

Eden has spent years caring for others, in a variety of places including Alice Springs. She said, “finally coming to land” at AQ was “a dream come true”.

“When I started working here, I was so impressed, I’m so motivated to come to work,” Eden said.

“I’m very proud of all our centres, they’re well-presented, and as a worker, it’s a matter of pride to us.

“All the different hubs and regions work together as well.

“As an organisation, we’re very well supported – any time I ask ‘what can we do here for this person? Can we make this happen?’ the answer is yes. And I’m always confident that I can make that call.

“The client is our priority and that’s the beauty of what we do.”

Looking after people in their homes, as well as offering respite for carers was something that Eden felt was vital.

“The respite care is really impressive, and we are available for all kinds of situations that might come up,” she said.

“If there’s some unforeseen emergency, we can help. Our centres are amazing, we tailor social activities and outings to the client, according to what they like.

“They have plenty of options, and our staff are such good people, and we train them all in house. It’s a quality team.”

She added seeing clients in their homes was a varied experience for all the AQ nursing and allied health staff.

“Home for some people is not always homely,” Eden said.

“For us who are non-clinical background, we are adaptable in any environment, and I think we have seen it all.”
